A punishment, a prophecy and a promise
God's plan of salvation is revealed

Meditation
Hi there,
God's justice is summary. In the immediate aftermath of the fall, He instantly reveals His plan of salvation.
Both Adam and Eve will hear their fates shortly.
But first, he metes out punishment to the serpent, prophecy to Satan, and a promise for mankind. A promise, the fulfillment of which the Advent season looks forward to.
The serpent is Satan's agent and will, from henceforth, know only the defeat and humiliation of groveling in the dust.
Satan's ultimate defeat is then prophesied. Satan's defeat will be at the hand of the seed of the woman (prophesying the virgin birth.) Jesus's life, death, and resurrection are promised here at the very beginning of the Bible.
God's promise is His plan of salvation. Revealed here in detail at the moment of the fall.
Today's passage is Genesis 3:14–15. (and is called out in black. Previous day's passages are provided for context and catch up.)
Genesis 3
8 And they heard the voice of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God amongst the trees of the garden.
9 And the Lord God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou?
10 And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself.
11 And he said, Who told thee that thou wast naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat?
12 And the man said, The woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat.
13 And the Lord God said unto the woman, What is this that thou hast done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat.
14 And the Lord God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life:
15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.
Encouragement
Writing these first lines out, I have been struck by how overtly physical the story is. Adam and Eve hear God's voice as he walks in the cool of the day.
The fall came about through the physical act of eating. The serpent will eat dust and bruise the Savior's heal before being bruised in return.
The incarnation we celebrate is the story of the physical proximity and activity of God restoring our personal relationship with Him, not a story of generalized "spirituality."
