A week of victory songs

Songs that have inspired hymn writers through the centuries

In partnership with

Meditation

Hi there,

This is the last week of our season of songs.

Beginning with Exodus 15, moving through Judges 5, a week in Psalms, and then last week, Zechariah's song, we have copied songs of memory and praise running through the heart of the Bible.

For this final week, we are going to copy fragments of songs from the book of Revelation.

Whereas the songs so far in the season have worked to help their writers, singers and listeners remember God's goodness In their present, the songs in Revelation sing of the ultimate victory - the victory over sin and death that has been won through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus.

Expect, then, a week of triumph and joy.

The fragments of songs in the Book of Revelation we will be copying have inspired the most magnificent and enduring choral celebrations and songs that we are familiar with to this day so be sure to click on the YouTube links to hear the songs that have been inspired by the words that you are copying out.

We are starting today with Revelation4. Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord God Almighty!

Today's text is Revelation 4:6-11.

Revelation 4

6 Also in front of the throne there was what looked like a sea of glass, clear as crystal.

In the center, around the throne, were four living creatures, and they were covered with eyes, in front and in back. 7 The fi

rst living creature was like a lion, the second was like an ox, the third had a face like a man, the fourth was like a flying eagle.

8 Each of the four living creatures had six wings and was covered with eyes all around, even under its wings. Day and night they never stop saying:

“‘Holy, holy, holy

is the Lord God Almighty,’

who was, and is, and is to come.”

9 Whenever the living creatures give glory, honor and thanks to him who sits on the throne and who lives for ever and ever, 10 the twenty-four elders fall down before him who sits on the throne and worship him who lives for ever and ever.

They lay their crowns before the throne and say:

11 “You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they were created and have their being.”
