Abigail is rewarded
David takes Abigail for his wife, but the chapter ends on a cliffhanger

Meditation
Hi there,
This has been one of the more challenging writing weeks in Bible Copy Club, but I also hope its been an enjoyable one.
Abigail's is one of the more obscure stories in the Bible but one full of wisdom, humility and intelligence...all of it on Abigail's part.
She single-handedly saves Nabal's men from destruction and David from unnecessary and sinful revenge. She points David to God's Grace and His Justice and remains humble to the end saying "I am your servant and am ready to serve you"
It's an exhilarating story, and one that the writer(s) choose to end on a cliffhanger by re-introducing Michal whom David had earlier paid a dangerous bride-price for and married (1 Samuel 18-19) and whom Saul had given to another man.
A situation that will find its resolution in 2 Samuel.
Today's verses are 1 Samuel 25:39-44
David, Nabal and Abigail
39 When David heard that Nabal was dead, he said, “Praise be to the Lord, who has upheld my cause against Nabal for treating me with contempt. He has kept his servant from doing wrong and has brought Nabal’s wrongdoing down on his own head.”
Then David sent word to Abigail, asking her to become his wife.
40 His servants went to Carmel and said to Abigail, “David has sent us to you to take you to become his wife.”
41 She bowed down with her face to the ground and said, “I am your servant and am ready to serve you and wash the feet of my lord’s servants.” 42 Abigail quickly got on a donkey and, attended by her five female servants, went with David’s messengers and became his wife.
43 David had also married Ahinoam of Jezreel, and they both were his wives. 44 But Saul had given his daughter Michal, David’s wife, to Paltiel son of Laish, who was from Gallim.
Encouragement
The wise in heart are called discerning,
and gracious words promote instruction.
22 Prudence is a fountain of life to the prudent,
but folly brings punishment to fools.
23 The hearts of the wise make their mouths prudent,
and their lips promote instruction.
24 Gracious words are a honeycomb,
sweet to the soul and healing to the bones.

David Guzick's sermon on verses 22-44 verses is a great complement to this today's passage.
