Christ and the church! Ephesians 5:29-33
The highest standard of Love in the universe

Meditation
Hi there,
If you love good plot twists in a movie, you’ll love our meditation today! Paul has been revealing what walking in harmony looks like in the home. Now, he does something amazing.
Following Jesus is a worthy calling but it’s also a high calling that God enables through His indwelling Holy Spirit.
All who truly believe are indwelt by the Spirit and empowered for harmonious living. That’s been his theme throughout chapters four and five.
Now Paul likens the marriage of a man and woman to the relationship between Christ and His church.
Look the words over carefully as you write. Who represents the head who leads the relation-ship, and who represents the wife who is to be submissive and easy to lead?
The church is not a building where we gather, it is a body of believers whose Head is the Lord Jesus Christ, and we are the submissive bride. Amazing!
Today's verses are Ephesians 5:29-33. (Previous verses are in grey for context).
Instructions for Christian Households
21 Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.
22 Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord. 23 For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior.
24 Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything.
25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her 26 to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, 27 and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless.
28 In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself.
29 After all, no one ever hated their own body, but they feed and care for their body, just as Christ does the church— 30 for we are members of his body.
31 “For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.” 3
2 This is a profound mystery—but I am talking about Christ and the church.
33 However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.
Encouragement
17 Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. 18 And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.
2 Corinthians 3:17-18

I've included the third part of John Piper's exposition of this passage from his "Look at the Book" series. This is a new video for today, even though the image looks the same. I hope you enjoy it!
