Epaphroditus, a brother, co-worker and fellow soldier
A life of brotherly self sacrifice

Meditation
Hi there,
Timothy is like a son to Paul, and Epaphroditus is like a brother.
The church in Philippi has sent Epaphroditus to Rome with money for Paul—this is what Paul means when he says that Epaphroditus has been sent to take care of his needs (verse 25).
What a tremendous blessing and encouragement this must have been to Paul during his imprisonment!
But Epaphroditus has been very sick, and almost died from his illness. Thankfully, he’s recovered, and Paul looks forward to sending him back to Philippi. Once Epaphroditus is back home, everyone will be relieved and less anxious!
Paul says that Epaphroditus is a brother, a co-worker, and a fellow soldier for Christ. He has courageously undergone a long journey to bring money to Paul (no doubt risking robbery along the way). And he has almost died for the work of Christ.
Paul says that Epaphroditus risked his life in order to deliver the tangible help that the Philippians weren’t able to provide from afar.
Few of us are called to serve God in such risky and extraordinary ways. But just as the Philippians supported Paul with prayer, letters, and financial gifts, we can also do this for missionaries and other workers in ministry today.
Is there someone who is doing the work of Christ in difficult circumstances that you can encourage today?
Today’s text is Philippians 2:25-30
Timothy and Epaphroditus
25 But I think it is necessary to send back to you Epaphroditus, my brother, co-worker and fellow soldier, who is also your messenger, whom you sent to take care of my needs.
26 For he longs for all of you and is distressed because you heard he was ill. 27 Indeed he was ill, and almost died. But God had mercy on him, and not on him only but also on me, to spare me sorrow upon sorrow.
28 Therefore I am all the more eager to send him, so that when you see him again you may be glad and I may have less anxiety.
29 So then, welcome him in the Lord with great joy, and honor people like him, 30 because he almost died for the work of Christ. He risked his life to make up for the help you yourselves could not give me.
