✍️📖 The plot against Jesus

The chief priests' secret is no secret to Jesus

Meditation

Hi there,

For the next seven days we'll be copying out most of Matthew 26. The chapter that covers the period from the end of Jesus' public teaching ministry, through the last supper, Jesus' arrest and trial and the denial by Peter.

Today's passage divides into two complementary scenes; Jesus foretells his arrest and crucifixion, while the chief priests in another location plot to bring that to fruition.

The plot follows the prediction, highlighting Jesus' control of the events. It is inevitable, not because the men plot, but because it is the Lord's will.

Today's text is Matthew 26:1–5.

The Plot Against Jesus

26 When Jesus had finished saying all these things, he said to his disciples, 2 “As you know, the Passover is two days away—and the Son of Man will be handed over to be crucified.”

3 Then the chief priests and the elders of the people assembled in the palace of the high priest, whose name was Caiaphas, 4 and they schemed to arrest Jesus secretly and kill him.

5 “But not during the festival,” they said, “or there may be a riot among the people.”

Encouragement

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

John 16:33
