Jesus' last recorded words

Meditation

Hi there,

Today's passage is the last in the "Jesus is Risen" series. Since Easter, we have traced out Jesus' appearances and commissions since the Resurrection.

Jesus' final appearance in the New Testament is in the book of Revelation, and I've chosen his last words as the last passage to copy out for this season.

Jesus' appearances after the Resurrection are aimed at regathering his Disciples (as well as anointing Paul) and commissioning them for their future work.

These passages are the orders Jesus gave so that you and I might be reached and saved. In copying them, we are, in effect, recording the first required steps leading to our own salvation.

Today's words are a promise and an encouragement to all believers to remain hopeful for Jesus' return.

Today's text is Revelation 22:12–16

I haven't marked these words in red as I normally would, as all the words in today's passage are Jesus' words.

Epilogue: Invitation and Warning

12 β€œLook, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to each person according to what they have done. 13 I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.

14 β€œBlessed are those who wash their robes, that they may have the right to the tree of life and may go through the gates into the city.

15 Outside are the dogs, those who practice magic arts, the sexually immoral, the murderers, the idolaters and everyone who loves and practices falsehood.

16 β€œI, Jesus, have sent my angel to give you this testimony for the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, and the bright Morning Star.”

Encouragement

Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day.

For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.

So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

2 Corinthians 4:16-18
