Hallelujah, Praise the Lord!

God's "wills" are trustworthy, true and triumphant.

Meditation

Hi there,

Today, as we reach the end of the song Moses recalls the lines we copied earlier;

The enemy boasted, ‘I will pursue, I will overtake them. I will divide the spoils; I will gorge myself on them. I will draw my sword and my hand will destroy them.’

But...the false, proud, and ultimately futile "I Wills" of the Egyptians have been replaced with prophecy for what God "will's."

Poetically this makes for a resounding finish to the song of celebration. The Egyptian's wishful thinking contrasted with the certainty of God's promises to the Israelites.

Today's text is Exodus 15: 15-18

Exodus 15

15 The chiefs of Edom will be terrified,
 the leaders of Moab will be seized with trembling,
the people of Canaan will melt away;
16  terror and dread will fall on them.

By the power of your arm
 they will be as still as a stone—
until your people pass by, Lord,
 until the people you bought pass by.

17 You will bring them in and plant them
 on the mountain of your inheritance—
the place, Lord, you made for your dwelling,
 the sanctuary, Lord, your hands established.

18 “The Lord reigns
 for ever and ever.”

Encouragement

What God has done is a precursor of what he will do. What he has done for generations past gives us faith and confidence in what he will do for us.

Moses' song of celebration memorializes the miraculous salvation and redemption of the Israelites and has been passed down to us as a record not just of the event, but of our ongoing, continuous inheritance.

“The Lord reigns for ever and ever.”
