Holiness: Your witness to the world

God’s holiness is not only His defining characteristic but also the standard for His people and the foundation for our lives in Him.

Meditation

In today's short passage ending our study of holiness, Peter exhorts believers to live lives marked by holiness, grounded in the salvation they’ve received through Jesus.

Writing to persecuted Christians scattered across Asia Minor, Peter encourages them to fix their hope on the grace that will be revealed at Christ’s return. Reminding them that their new identity as God’s redeemed people calls for a radical departure from the sinful patterns of their former lives.

A call to holiness is as much a witness to the world as it is a personal transformation; they are to reflect God’s own holiness in every aspect of their conduct, regardless of the suffering they are experiencing.

God’s holiness is not only His defining characteristic but also the standard for His people and the foundation for our lives in Him.

Today's text is 1 Peter 1:13-16.

Be Holy

13 Therefore, with minds that are alert and fully sober, set your hope on the grace to be brought to you when Jesus Christ is revealed at his coming.

14 As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance.

15 But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; 16 for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.”

Encouragement

"The holiness of God affects every aspect of our lives. When we encounter the holy, we are called to be holy. God’s holiness is not just an attribute; it is the standard for our conduct and the foundation for our relationship with Him."
