Jehovah Jireh. God's promise fulfilled

Isaac's original question; "where is the lamb?" is answered in full. In Jesus.

Meditation

Hi there,

As we saw yesterday, Isaac's question, “Where is the lamb?” was answered by Abraham with confidence, “God will provide for Himself the lamb,” but what actually appears in that moment is a ram caught in the thicket. A substitute, sufficient for the moment, but not fully matching the request.

Today, we see the complete fulfillment of the request. “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world,”

On the very same mountain where God once provided a ram, He would later establish Jerusalem and the temple and now, in John 1, the true Lamb is identified, not as another temporary provision, but as the one who finally fulfills what had been anticipated from the beginning.

So Jehovah Jireh is not only the God who provides in a moment of need; He is the God who sees ahead to what is ultimately required and provides it in full.

The ram on Moriah was a real provision, but it was also a sign pointing forward. In Jesus, that provision reaches its fulfillment.

The question, “Where is the lamb?” finds its lasting answer, not in a substitute caught in the thicket, but in the Son who is given for the world.

Today's text is John 1: 29-36.

John Testifies About Jesus

29 The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!

30 This is the one I meant when I said, ‘A man who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me.’ 31 I myself did not know him, but the reason I came baptizing with water was that he might be revealed to Israel.”

32 Then John gave this testimony: “I saw the Spirit come down from heaven as a dove and remain on him. 33 And I myself did not know him, but the one who sent me to baptize with water told me, ‘The man on whom you see the Spirit come down and remain is the one who will baptize with the Holy Spirit.’

34 I have seen and I testify that this is God’s Chosen One.”

John’s Disciples Follow Jesus

35 The next day John was there again with two of his disciples. 36 When he saw Jesus passing by, he said, “Look, the Lamb of God!”

Encouragement

31 What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32 He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?
