Jehovah Ori. The Lord my Light

God's light comes with a promise: salvation and freedom from fear.

Meditation

Hi there,

Jehovah Ori, the Lord, my light, is the last of the names in this series.

As we noted at the start of this season, the names themselves are a promise from God not simply a name. Each of the names finds its fulfillment in Jesus.

So as we've gone through this season, we featured an Old Testament passage declaring the name and the promise, followed by a New Testament passage showing the fulfillment in Jesus.

One thing that has consistently stood out is that these names are personal promises and names given to God by the men and women of the Bible. They are not impersonal theology. They are personal declarations of a promise made and kept by the Lord.

As we can see today, David does not say the Lord is a light. He says the Lord is my light.

And that light comes with a promise: salvation and freedom from fear.

Today's text is Psalm 27: 1-4

Psalm 27

Of David.

1 The Lord is my light and my salvation—
whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the stronghold of my life—
of whom shall I be afraid?

2 When the wicked advance against me
to devour me,
it is my enemies and my foes
who will stumble and fall.
3 Though an army besiege me,
my heart will not fear;
though war break out against me,
even then I will be confident.

Encouragement

“Arise, shine, for your light has come,
and the glory of the Lord rises upon you.

2 See, darkness covers the earth
and thick darkness is over the peoples,
but the Lord rises upon you
and his glory appears over you.

3 Nations will come to your light,
and kings to the brightness of your dawn.

Isaiah 60:1-3
