Michal. A quick series recap
A divided heart will lead to undivided loneliness.

Meditation
Hi there,
Our short series in Michal came to an end yesterday. And we have one more week left in our series following Women of the Bible.
Michal has been a series within a series, showing the spiritual damage a divided heart and divided loyalties wreak. Michal's commitment, or lack of it, bears a stark counterpoint to that of Abigail, whom we studied previously, and the woman we'll study next week.
Throughout the series in Michal, we saw a tension between human authority and divine calling. We followed Michal, the pawn in her father Saul's political schemes, to her complex, divided loyalty to David.
After her forced return to him, the series culminated in the profound difference between her human-centric view of royal dignity and David's unrestrained, humble worship before the Lord with the ark's return.
Her critical, isolated response to David's celebration ultimately reveals a heart disconnected from the true joy to be found in worshipping the Lord rather than seeking human honor and approval.
The story's tragic conclusion, where she remains childless, reinforces that the Lord chose David, not Saul's line. Ultimately, the story contains three warnings for us;
Beware of seeking self-preservation vs. truth: The temptation to compromise the truth or spiritually justify decisions when motivated by a desire for self-preservation, comfort, or fear of confrontation.
Beware of a divided heart: Michal's reliance on a household idol (teraphim) and her high position represent a spiritual and human comfort that prevents a full, reliant devotion to God's provision and guidance.
Beware of unaddressed fears and jealousy: The story of Saul, Michal's father, shows how unaddressed fears and spiritual jealousies can lead to escalating destructive actions or attitudes toward others.
I often find myself "picking a side" when I'm reading Bible stories, and of course, I always want to be on the "right" side, but I can have no concept of the pressures and concerns that Michal had. But the traps she fell into are very real and very close to home.
I'm far more inclined to be a Michal than an Abigail. Which is a sobering thought for a Sunday.
Bible Copy Club continues tomorrow. Have a blessed Sunday.
