Michal. Given away and demanded back
Michal is used as a political pawn again and again

Meditation
Hi there,
After David fled from Saul, he lived for years as a fugitive while Saul continued to pursue him.
During that time, Saul gave Michal, David’s wife, to another man, Paltiel. Saul’s giving Michal to Paltiel marks the formal severing of David’s place within Saul’s family. Why this man, Paltiel, is chosen specifically isn't made known. However, Michal's position as Saul's daughter is being used to shore up political alliances and consolidate power.
Giving Michal away to another man is a means of removing any lingering legitimacy David has through marriage into the royal line.
The marriage between David and Michal remained unresolved as the conflict between Saul and David intensified, Saul died in battle, and the kingdom entered a period of division.
In the verses we are copying out today, David is beginning to consolidate his rule, and so he demands Michal’s return as part of the negotiations that would reunite the kingdom...and associate him to the former royal line.
Today's verses are 1 Samuel 25:44 and 2 Samuel 3:13-15.
1 Samuel 25:44
44 But Saul had given his daughter Michal, David’s wife, to Paltiel son of Laish, who was from Gallim.
2 Samuel 3:13-15
12 Then Abner sent messengers on his behalf to say to David, “Whose land is it? Make an agreement with me, and I will help you bring all Israel over to you.”
13 “Good,” said David. “I will make an agreement with you. But I demand one thing of you: Do not come into my presence unless you bring Michal daughter of Saul when you come to see me.
14 Then David sent messengers to Ish-Bosheth son of Saul, demanding, “Give me my wife Michal, whom I betrothed to myself for the price of a hundred Philistine foreskins.”
15 So Ish-Bosheth gave orders and had her taken away from her husband Paltiel son of Laish.
