Michal. Loyal wife or survivor?
Michael loyally saves David and then willfully endangers him

Meditation
Hi there,
Michal is a complex and interesting character. We saw earlier this week that she loved David, and so it must have been joyful to be his wife. And we can see from today's passage that her first intent is to honor Genesis 2:24.
24 That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh.
She warns David of the danger, actively participates in his escape and delays the pursuit long enough for David to fully flee.
However, there are some revealing signs that all is not well with her, spiritually.
She has a household idol large enough for it to be mistaken for David, and when asked by Saul why he has deceived her, she does not claim her responsibility as a wife or the unjustness of Saul's pursuit (as we saw Jonathan do yesterday), but rather lies and says that David had threatened to kill her.
Given Saul's existing enmity, this lie would give Saul justification to pursue David to death.
Michal seems to act according to the expediency of the moment rather than from the depths of an ordered heart.
Today's verses are 1 Samuel 19:11-17.
19. Saul Tries to Kill David
11 Saul sent men to David’s house to watch it and to kill him in the morning. But Michal, David’s wife, warned him, “If you don’t run for your life tonight, tomorrow you’ll be killed.”
12 So Michal let David down through a window, and he fled and escaped. 13 Then Michal took an idol and laid it on the bed, covering it with a garment and putting some goats’ hair at the head.
14 When Saul sent the men to capture David, Michal said, “He is ill.”
15 Then Saul sent the men back to see David and told them, “Bring him up to me in his bed so that I may kill him.” 16 But when the men entered, there was the idol in the bed, and at the head was some goats’ hair.
17 Saul said to Michal, “Why did you deceive me like this and send my enemy away so that he escaped?”
Michal told him, “He said to me, ‘Let me get away. Why should I kill you?’”
Encouragement
But I will sing of your strength,
in the morning I will sing of your love;
for you are my fortress,
my refuge in times of trouble.
17 You are my strength, I sing praise to you;
you, God, are my fortress,
my God on whom I can rely.
Psalm 59:16-17Andy
