Michal. Two very different processions

Paltiel's grief and the beginning of the ark's procession

Meditation

Hi there,

David has secured and reunited with Michal.

And as we see today, Paltiel is bereft without her, but also powerless to stop her being reclaimed. David is now established as the king in Israel, and now moves to establish Jerusalem as not just a political capital but also a center for Israel's worship by bringing the Ark there.

For the rest of the week, we will be copying out 2 Samuel chapter six, which details these tumultuous events beginning today with the first five verses.

We'll see as we go through the week, David and the Israelites suffer for a lack of reverence initially, but that reverence does not preclude celebration. Michal's interpretation of David's worship will ultimately expose the condition of her heart.

Today's verses are 2 Samuel 3:16 and 2 Samuel 6:1–5

2 Samuel 3:16

15 So Ish-Bosheth gave orders and had her taken away from her husband Paltiel son of Laish.

16 Her husband, however, went with her, weeping behind her all the way to Bahurim. Then Abner said to him, “Go back home!” So he went back.

2 Samuel 6:1-5

The Ark Brought to Jerusalem

6 David again brought together all the able young men of Israel—thirty thousand. 2 He and all his men went to Baalah in Judah to bring up from there the ark of God, which is called by the Name, the name of the Lord Almighty, who is enthroned between the cherubim on the ark.

3 They set the ark of God on a new cart and brought it from the house of Abinadab, which was on the hill. Uzzah and Ahio, sons of Abinadab, were guiding the new cart 4 with the ark of God on it, and Ahio was walking in front of it.

5 David and all Israel were celebrating with all their might before the Lord, with castanets, harps, lyres, timbrels, sistrums and cymbals.

This study in Michal from Revive Women draws some interesting and useful conclusions from the whole story. I'll be featuring it here throughout the week.
