Surrender now! and be free forever
Jesus explains that the dedicated cannot be divided
Hi there,
We spent this week in Mark 10, studying the story of the rich young ruler who chooses earthly riches over eternal life.
This young man seemingly wanted to have it all: riches on earth and riches in heaven. On hearing that he could choose only one, with sadness, he chose the empty kind of riches.
We're capping this week off, not with a direct encounter, but with a brief excerpt from the Sermon on the Mount asserting the importance of storing up treasures in heaven, rather than on earth.
To be dedicated, you cannot be divided.
I've broken up the text a bit to make it easier to parse and to copy...and have highlighted parts of the text where you can see how comparisons are set against each other to propel the text forward.
Making this passage, and its message truly memorable.
Today's text is Matthew 6: 19-24
Treasures in Heaven
19 “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal.
20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.
21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
22 “The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light.
23 But if your eyes are unhealthy, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!
24 “No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other.
You cannot serve both God and money."
Encouragement
“He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot lose.”

Wishing you a great weekend!
