Thanksgiving for creation

His Love Endures Forever!

Hi there,

The body of the 'Great Hallel' is a series of praises for God's love, works, and power manifested in the lives of the Israelites.

Beginning with today's verses, which recount the story of creation from Genesis 1. Reminding them then and us now that God's power and his love are the same thing. He created our universe and rules it out of his great, enduring love.

There is nothing that you or I will see, hear, touch, or taste today that isn't due to his enduring love. Before any other temporal good we may experience, there is the gift of His created intelligent, perfect order.

Today's text is Psalm 136: 4-9 (and is called out in black)

Psalm 136

1 Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good.
His love endures forever.
2 Give thanks to the God of gods.
His love endures forever.
3 Give thanks to the Lord of lords:
His love endures forever.

4 to him who alone does great wonders,
His love endures forever.
5 who by his understanding made the heavens,
His love endures forever.
6 who spread out the earth upon the waters,
His love endures forever.
7 who made the great lights—
His love endures forever.
8 the sun to govern the day,
His love endures forever.
9 the moon and stars to govern the night;
His love endures forever.

Encouragement

This Psalm has been an encouragement and inspiration throughout the ages and in all kinds of places. This plaque quoting verse 1 is installed at an ascent to the Matterhorn in Switzerland together with lines from a hymn by Paul Gerhardt based on it.
