"They shall never enter my rest"
Thanksgiving is an act of remembrance

Meditation
Hi there,
Today's verses conclude Psalm 95, but if we were expecting a repetition or amplification of the first 7 verses, we're in for a rude awakening.
The call to remembrance and worship is replaced by a severe warning. Given in God's voice.
He recalls the times when Israel forgot him. The times when they failed to trust in his care and presence. The time when they insolently tested him despite his recent and persistent provision for them.
Just as remembrance leads to worship, so our forgetfulness leads to faithlessness and sin. When we forget who God is, whathe has made, and how he provides we separate ourselves from His presence and protection.
Psalm 95 begins on a high but ends with a dire warning.
Today's verses are Psalm 95:7b-11 (and are called out in black)
Psalm 95
1 Come, let us sing for joy to the Lord;
let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation.
2 Let us come before him with thanksgiving
and extol him with music and song.
3 For the Lord is the great God,
the great King above all gods.
4 In his hand are the depths of the earth,
and the mountain peaks belong to him.
5 The sea is his, for he made it,
and his hands formed the dry land.
6 Come, let us bow down in worship,
let us kneel before the Lord our Maker;
7 for he is our God
and we are the people of his pasture,
the flock under his care.
Today, if only you would hear his voice,
8 “Do not harden your hearts as you did at Meribah,[a]
as you did that day at Massah[b] in the wilderness,
9 where your ancestors tested me;
they tried me, though they had seen what I did.
10 For forty years I was angry with that generation;
I said, ‘They are a people whose hearts go astray,
and they have not known my ways.’
11 So I declared on oath in my anger,
‘They shall never enter my rest.’”
Encouragement
N.T Wright wrote "worship is the true heart of the human vocation." Worship is an act of deliberate memory. Recalling and extolling who God is, for what he is, for what he has done, and for what he will do for all of his people.
“See to it, brothers and sisters, that none of you has a sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God. But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called “Today,” so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness.”
Hebrews 3: 12-13
