Who can I trust? Paul’s answer: Timothy
A life marked by Christ-centered concern

Meditation
Hi there,
Today and tomorrow, we’re going to learn more about two of Paul’s dear friends in the gospel: Timothy and Epaphroditus.
One is like a son to him, one is like a brother, and both men are examples of Christian partnership and love for others.
You might remember that back in Philippians 1:1, Paul mentioned that Timothy was sending this letter also (“Paul and Timothy, servants of Christ Jesus”). The Philippians know Timothy—he was a part of Paul’s team that established a church in Philippi ten years before.
What Christian attributes does Timothy have?
He shows genuine concern for others, as Jesus does (verse 20). Paul notes that this is rare, because most people are looking out only for themselves! Timothy is still fairly young, but already he has proven himself, serving as a son would with his father in order to advance the gospel (verse 22).
Even though Paul is imprisoned and would probably benefit greatly to keep Timothy nearby (if Paul undergoes a Roman trial he may need Timothy with him), he hopes to send him back to Philippi so that he can get news of how things are going there with the church that he established.
If you’d like to know a little more about Timothy, take a look at Acts 16:1-5 for how he came to join Paul, and also see 2 Timothy 1:5 for who influenced Timothy’s faith as a child.
Today’s text is Philippians 2:19-24
Timothy and Epaphroditus
19 I hope in the Lord Jesus to send Timothy to you soon, that I also may be cheered when I receive news about you. 20 I have no one else like him, who will show genuine concern for your welfare.
21 For everyone looks out for their own interests, not those of Jesus Christ. 22 But you know that Timothy has proved himself, because as a son with his father he has served with me in the work of the gospel.
23 I hope, therefore, to send him as soon as I see how things go with me. 24 And I am confident in the Lord that I myself will come soon
