Who is there like you?

The world turns in two words..."But you"

Meditation

Hi there,

After the relief and wonder of the song's opening verses, today's passage reflects the fear the Israelites had been living under.

They were anticipating complete destruction.

The repetition of the enemy's boasting "I will" highlights their arrogance, aggression, and the sense of inevitability that hung over the Israelites.

An inevitability broken by the simple "But you."

"But God" is the hinge on which this passage, and all of history, swings.

Today's text is Exodus 15: 9-11

Exodus 15

The enemy boasted,
‘I will pursue, I will overtake them.
I will divide the spoils;
I will gorge myself on them.
I will draw my sword
and my hand will destroy them.’

10 But you blew with your breath,
 and the sea covered them.
They sank like lead
 in the mighty waters.
11 Who among the gods
 is like you, Lord?

Who is like you—
 majestic in holiness,
awesome in glory,
 working wonders?

Encouragement

The phrase "But God" appears 45 times in the Bible, always heralding a decisive intervention.

Whatever the circumstances and whatever our intentions or those of the enemy, and however strong and overwhelming they seem, there is always a ..."But God"

God always has the last word.
