Women of the Bible. A quick series recap
Three reflections on the three stories in our last series

Meditation
Hi there,
I apologize for the delay in getting these reflections on our last series over to you! Normal service will be resumed next week.
The“Women of the Bible” series focused on three women: Abigail, Michal, and the Shunammite woman. The passages we copied were a study in contrasting forms of devotion and faith, tied together around a few core themes.
Unified Faith vs. Divided Loyalty: Michal’s story of a divided heart and divided loyalties stood in stark contrast to Abigail's and the Shunammite woman's. Where Michal’s commitment was clearly lacking, the Shunammite woman’s story is a picture of a consistent history of obedience and composed faith in following God’s prophet Elisha’s instructions, ending in the restoration of her son, land, and income.
Worship and Worldly Approval: Michal’s final, tragic action was a critical, isolated response to David’s humble worship, revealing a heart disconnected from the true joy of worshipping the Lord experienced by her husband and the Israelite people. Serving as a warning against letting a human-centric view or a desire for self-preservation override a full devotion to God.
The Consequences of Fear and Idolatry: Michal’s story contains a strong warning about the spiritual damage of a divided heart, particularly how reliance on worldly comfort (represented by her household idol and high position) can prevent a full, devoted reliance on God’s provision and guidance.
Reflection Questions
Based on these themes, here are a few questions for us to consider during this rest week:
Where is my own heart divided between God’s calling and human honor in my current life?
Am I more inclined to practice the Shunammite woman’s composed faith and simple obedience, or do I exhibit Michal’s tendency toward self-preservation when confronted with spiritual truth or conviction?
What are the “household idols” or high positions I rely on for comfort or security that may be preventing a more complete and full devotion to God’s guidance?
Bible Copy Club begins again next week with our Easter series.
